“Connecting our Past: The History and Culture of Boston-Thurmond” Exhibit at MUSE-WS

Still from AR vignette about childhood in historic Boston.

In December, 2024, MUSE W-S hosted the exhibit, “Connecting our Past: The History and Culture of Boston-Thurmond.” The exhibit features research and augmented reality demos from the “Re/connecting 24 1/2 Street” project that I have been working on with community partners Elise Barrella and David West, 3D artist and UNCSA alum Sarah Loveland, and UNCSA students/alums Gabriela Fisher, Joshua Robinson, Caleb Jordan, Colin Moroz, James Rice, and Cameryn Chestnut.

The exhibit featured two story circles (one planned, the other impromptu) with longtime residents of historic Boston. Residents recalled the deep community ties that knit neighbors together across generations in this once-thriving hub of Winston-Salem’s Black professional and working classes.
